The Old Cats hockey tournament that ran last weekend at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre had 12 teams on the prowl for a victory and some bragging rights.
There were six local squads involved, along with teams from Penticton, Williams Lake, Clearwater, Aldergrove, Canim Lake and Clinton.
In the 35-plus division, the 100 Mile Old Stars 35 defeated 100 Mile RE/MAX in the final to clench the division title.
100 Mile Old Cats 45 dominated the Clearwater Hosers in the 45-plus division final for the championship.
John Taylor, one of the key organizers, says he is happy with how the tournament went.
“We had lots of good hockey. All of the teams had some good players on them.”
Unsure how long the tournament has been held in 100 Mile House, he says it’s been a long time.
“We don’t have too many of the original players anymore.”
One thing Taylor is sure of is the support of longtime fans, Don and Val McNish of 100 Mile House, who, he says sat in on most of the weekend games and rarely miss the Old Cats’ regular Sunday games.
“We’d like to thank all of the people who came to watch and all of the players who participated.”
The fast-paced tournament disallowed hitting and was for players 35 years and older.
