The 100 Mile House Wranglers suffered a 3-0 shutout against the Thunder Bay Northern Hawks in their first game of the Keystone Cup in Regina, Sask. on April 14.
The Northern Hawks have had a lot of experience at the Keystone Cup, which is the Junior B championship of Western Canada. The Hawks have played in the Keystone Cup nines.
However, the Wranglers outshot the Hawks 44-20 but couldn't get the puck past Thunder Bay goalie Tyler Lesschaeve.
Zane Steeves stopped 18 of the 28 shots he faced.
Thunder Bay was one for seven on power-play attempts, while 100 Mile House was zero for seven on their man-advantage opportunities,
The Hawks got on the board with 48 seconds left in the first period, and jumped into a two-goal lead 23 seconds into the first on a power play in the second.
Then with the three minutes left in the third frame, they Hawks got an empty-netter for the 3-0 shutout.
The Wranglers are back on the ice at Co-operators Centre against the host Extreme Hockey Regina Capitals at 11:30 a.m. MST tomorrow (April 15) and then go up against the North Peace Navigators at 5:30 p.m. MST.
On April 16, they have an 8:30 a.m. start against the Peguis Juniors.
