100 Mile House resident Candace Knudsen has been selected as one of the top 20 women in the world to compete in this year’s Extreme Huntress Competition.
“The Extreme Huntress Competition is about preserving our outdoor heritage and the goal is to create positive role models for women who want to participate in hunting,” Knudsen says.
“Ultimately, the hopes are to create a new generation of conservation stewards, providing sound management for wildlife and their habitat.”
To be part of this opportunity, women from all over the world completed an essay, shared hunting experiences and qualifications and submitted them to the Extreme Huntress judges. The judges have narrowed it down to the top 20 essays from women from around the world, including South Africa, Australia, United States and Canada.
These 20 women were announced this week and now have a month to compete for votes to be chosen as the top 6 to participate and compete in Texas in a hunting and skills competition in July.
Then, starting in October, episodes will be aired online and people will have a chance to vote weekly for their favourite huntress. The winner will be announced in January as 2017 Extreme Huntress.
To get to the top 6, Knudsen says she needs everyone’s vote, as only the six women with the most votes will be chosen to compete.
The essays submitted will be posted online on May 1, along with each women’s hunting photo. Voting starts May 1 and goes into June 1 online at www.extremehuntress.com.
