The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has issued a 72-hour strike notice against Canada Post.
CUPW states Canada Post refused to accept a request from federal Labour Minister MaryAnn Mihychuk to continue negotiations with the help of a special mediator.
According to media reports, Canada Post denies that is the case.
CUPW states the notice only lays out the action the union is planning, but doesn't mention a country-wide walkout.
Meanwhile, CUPW's strike mandate was set to expire at midnight today (Aug. 25).
The notice means deliveries could be stopped as early as Monday.
After negotiating for three-quarters of a year, the two sides are at loggerheads over pay equity for rural carriers and proposed changes to the Canada Post pension plan.
