Highway of Tears viewing July 6

The Stemete7uw'i – A Gathering Place Friendship Centre is hosting film

The Stemete7uw'i – A Gathering Place Friendship Centre is hosting a special movie presentation of Highway of Tears on July 6.

Written and directed by Mathew Smiley, this 2015 film tells about the missing or murdered women along the 724-kilometre stretch of highway in northern British Columbia.

Viewers will discover what the effects of generational poverty, residential schools, systemic violence and high unemployment rates have done to First Nation communities and how they tie in with the missing and murdered women.

Seating is limited. We recommend reserving a spot. Call us at 250-945-5259 or e-mail stemete7uwifriendship@gmail.com.

Admission by donation for the 7 p.m. showing. Discussion to follow with tea, coffee, juice and snacks.

The centre is located at 106 B Blackstock Road (behind St. Timothy’s Church on the corner of Horse Lake and Blackstock roads.)
