Highway 1 near Three Valley Gap, 19 kilometres west of Revelstoke, will be closed in both directions on Tuesday (Sept. 20) to facilitate the safe installation of the first four Remote Avalanche Control Systems (RACS).
The new RACS will allow for avalanche control on a 24-hour basis throughout the winter. Eight separate RACS will be installed at key locations along the south side of Three Valley Lake.
Crews expect to install four systems this fall, with the remainder to being stalled next year.
Extended closures will take effect on Sept. 20, from 8 to 11 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.
