British Columbians from throughout the province will be turning off lights and powering down electronics this Saturday (March 19) between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. during Earth Hour 2016.
Earth Hour is a global event encouraging people to conserve energy by turning off lights and electronics to show their support for climate change action.
Last year's Earth Hour resulted in 15 megawatt hours of electricity saved, reducing the overall provincial electricity load by 0.2 per cent – the equivalent of turning off almost 680,000 LED light bulbs.
Whistler and Invermere had the highest reductions in energy in British Columbia during the lights
off event, at 7.2 and 6.7 per cent respectively.
