Time to do good

A Christmas message from Bernd Hedtfeld of 100 Mile House's New Apostolic Church

Here we are again at the end of the year with Christmas upon us. We have great expectations from ourselves and loved ones during the holiday season, and it is also a time when we want to fulfil the expectations of those close to us. It can be a very demanding time in our already busy lives.

On top of all these hopes and wishes, we also once again want to focus on the person Christmas commemorates: Jesus Christ. We can learn so much from Him and His life. Jesus Christ followed a mission which can be described as to do good, always! Were situations in His life always smooth sailing for Him?

The short answer is no. Christ experienced many disappointments, setbacks and moments of desperation and helplessness. And yet He continued His mission. Why? Because Jesus had a goal and He knew what He wanted to accomplish!

Many people today also have a goal and mission for their lives. Some goals are selfish while other goals include the wellbeing of people. Did you ever take the time to define your goals? To define your life’s mission? There are times when we are very successful in our lives. Don’t let us forget to do good then in these moments of success.

We aren’t always spared of setbacks, disappointments, and injustices in life. Don’t let us take these letdowns as an excuse to hold back on doing good in our environments. Furthermore, we shouldn’t think that our small deeds aren’t really making a difference in the world. It’s possible for us to do good in all situations! Jesus proved that it’s possible to do small good deeds in many situations. Let us also engage in doing good!

I leave you with the one verse of the hymnal Little Drops of Water:

Little deeds of kindness,

little words of love,

make our earth an Eden,

like the heaven above.

I wish you and your loved ones a warm Christmas season and lots of success for 2025!
