The Luxor Lamp located atop one of the tallest hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada, has the strongest light beam in the world at a staggering 42.3 billion candela.
By using curved mirrors and 315,000 Watts, the Luxor Lamp, which was first fired up in October 1993, can be seen from almost 450 kms away!
It might also be possibly the world’s best bug attractor, which has created a whole new ecosystem of bats, moths, bugs and owls. The lights recently attracted a massive swarm of grasshoppers dazzled by the unusually brilliant light. Reminds me of the animated hit, It’s a Bug’s Life.
But you know, there is a Light that shines even brighter than the Luxor Lamp.
The Light that shines from heaven is far greater still, but more than supplying the food chain, this divine source of light supplies life to all who will come to it!
Christmas songs like O Come O Come Emmanuel speak of it, and even prophets like Isaiah some 700 years before Christ said, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.
The Apostle John described it like this: “The one who is the true light gives light to everyone… He came into the very world he created but the world didn’t recognize him. But to all who did, he gave the power to become children of God.”
That Light, if you haven’t guessed it, is Jesus. He himself even said, “I am the Light of the World.”
Like the one solitary house lit up for Christmas on an otherwise dark street, Jesus shines out as the one true beacon of hope for everyone on earth today who longs to come out of the shadows.
The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it.
May the true Light of Christmas illuminate your life this year. And once He does, go and reflect his light to all those around you! Unlike in the animated film, this light does not kill; it brings life!
Merry Christmas!
