Scooter tipped on icy crosswalk

To the editor:

To the editor:

Last week while trying to get my electric scooter onto the sidewalk at a busy crosswalk on Birch Avenue, the scooter got caught on ice hidden by an overnight snowfall and turned on its side with me on it.

At the time, I felt more embarrassed than hurt, but after speaking to a person at the village office, I was plain old mad.

The excuse given for the poor conditions of the streets and sidewalks is a smaller work crew to see to the job.

Yet just days before, I watched a worker and his loader clearing snow and piling it around Aspen Street. He didn’t come near mine, which only has enough snow cleared to allow me to get in and out with my scooter.

I have been a thorn in the side of some municipal workers because of my complaints and it is a continual pass-the-buck scenario.

One day, someone will be badly hurt because of this negligence and the municipality will have to take complaints seriously.
