Recreation facilities need to be done right

To the editor:

100 Mile and area it's time to get off the pot.

I recently returned from a four-day trip to Whistler with some of our family.

We went to the recreation centre and the pool is amazing to say the least. The kids had a blast on the rope swing and slide.

Now, what about our skateboard park and the bike park? Come on 100 Mile, we could have done better - maybe not to the calibre of Whistler, but at least something people would be proud to use.

I didn't say kids because there were adults using these play areas.

There are miles and miles of paved two-lane bike trails where a family can ride in a safe environment.

What I'm getting at here is the arena has problems to the point where you can't use heat in the stands because it gets too warm and negatively affects the ice conditions.

Our bike and skate parks were built to a bare minimum standard to shut the people up.

I hope to live long enough to see a pool/recreation centre but you need to do it right. Maybe you could put a little pride into our other places to play while you are at it.

After all, the signs say, “open for business.” You can bet we spent money on shopping, accommodation, meals, gas, etc., while enjoying the things Whistler has to offer.

That could be our town, but instead we have a library.
