It really is hard to believe this weather, here we are at the end of November and we still don’t have any snow to speak of. It has tried a few times but nothing has come out of its practice runs, I guess.
It was a beautiful sunny day for the Remembrance Day service held at the Pioneer McKinley cemetery. Approximately 70 people were in attendance, to honor and remember those who had fought in the wars. There were speeches, songs sung by Ingrid Mapson and Gale Ogden and lastly, Trudy Silverwood-Endacott played her trumpet for the Last Post. Pastor Mark Carter closed the service with a short message and prayer. Special thanks to the Lac La Hache Volunteer Fire Department (LLHVFD) who attended in uniform and provided hot drinks and to Hetty Olszewski who baked the cookies that were decorated to look like poppies.
The memorial service for Jamie Williams was very well attended. There were several folks from the audience who spoke about Jamie’s passion for all fast-action sports and his fantastic mechanical ability to fix any running machine that was ailing. The slide show was excellent and showcased his love of sports and the display of trophies attested to his skills. Refreshments were served as well as a delicious lunch that was prepared by Terry and Renee Barton and Juls Canton.
The painting class with Bobbie Crane was a very successful fundraiser at the Pioneer Centre, 28 people participated. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely and from some of the photos I have seen, there definitely were some budding artists in the group! There were door prizes from Bobbie and Head in the Clouds’ freeze-dried treats, as well as some lovely small gifts in the grab bags donated by Cariboo vendors.
The Crib tournament held at the Pioneer Centre on Nov. 25 had a record attendance of 50 people playing and was definitely a success! This event is extremely popular, everyone enjoys the fellowship, the competition and definitely the spaghetti lunch.
The Flea Market held on Nov. 26 at the Community Hall was definitely one of the best so far! Santa had a ball taking pictures with the children and handing out colouring books and candy canes. There were lots of different vendors this time, some holiday-oriented and the shoppers had a great selection to choose from. This event was so successful that another one will be held before Christmas on Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stop on by and check out that bubbly cheerful Santa, grab a bite to eat from the concession and enjoy visiting and shopping with the vendors. I will be there and will be happy to chat with you!
Results are in from the first annual Remembrance Day colouring contest sponsored by Canada Post. Congratulations to Coralee from the 0-7 age group and Shiloh and Paige from the +8 age group. A total of $64.00 was raised and was equally split with the 100 Mile Legion and the Canada Post Foundation.

The month of December sounds like fun for the Elementary school children. In total, they will have four skating days before they take their Christmas Break on Dec. 22. The students should come fully equipped with a helmet, skates, gloves and jacket. (There are skates to borrow at the arena if needed). Plans are in the works to have a Christmas Craft Night on Dec. 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. A really different and interesting concept to giving has been presented – there will be a sock exchange the last week before Christmas Break, the socks can be a Christmas theme or a winter theme. Enjoy your holiday break kids, have fun and stay safe!
