Mountain Spruce Community Centre’s (MSCC) new insurance permits including liquor for up to four events per month. Hence, they ask at which events members would choose to have beer, coolers, wines, and ciders available.
MSCC sincerely appreciates those who support their recycling programme, which makes a huge difference in allowing them to provide affordable events and activities, whilst also permitting improvements at the hall and park. Residents may also drop their recycling off at Interlakes dump, from which they share the proceeds on alternate weeks with Deka Lake & District Ratepayers.
Parkside Art Gallery
Long-time residents will remember Birgit Bienek, who lived at Sulphurous Lake in the 90s. Now, until Nov. 9, you can enjoy her show of soapstone animal carvings at Parkside Gallery, where she and acrylic artist Dawn Miller, are sharing, The Qi of Art: Inspired by Nature.
Always an artist in many different media, Birgit commented to the Free Press that she loved soapstone carving from the first moment: “A chunk of stone doesn't really look like anything but, as you work on it through sanding and polishing it, it reveals its beauty…”
Ladies of the Cariboo Lakes (LCL)
Initiated in Autumn 2021 by Deka’s Karen Godfrey and Sheridan’s Lisa May Whitehead, the Ladies of the Cariboo Lakes collects donations for “backpacks filled with new, essential daily-use products” for at-risk people in 100 Mile House. Happily, they have expanded their donations to include Interlakes Community Centre’s (ICC) Christmas Giftboxes.
Residents of any local lake can receive LCL’s explanatory letter and list of specifically required items by e-mailing theladiesofthecariboolakes@gmail.com
Donations can be dropped off at Lisa’s home at 7118 Boulanger Road, Sheridan, phone 778-288-2737; or Lorna’s home at 7424 Burgess Road, Deka Lake, phone 250-593-2320. If you prefer they do the shopping, they joyfully accept cash and will “fill in the holes.”
Everyone meets to “build the backpacks” from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Dec. 10 at Lisa’s home.
Interlakes Community Centre (ICC)
ICC’s Murder Mystery Dinner is on Saturday, Nov. 30. Doors open at 5 p.m. and guests must be seated by 5:30 p.m. The cost is $30 per person, including dinner, the game and one drink. Tickets are limited to 80 and must be paid for via e-transfer to interlakesrodeo@outlook.com by Nov. 18.
