May long weekend fun will be happening at the South Green Lake Volunteer Fire Department on May 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Come to the Open House in the Fire Hall at 546 Green Lake South Road and chat with the fire department's officers and firefighters and check out the fire apparatus (trucks).
Local FireSmart representatives (LFRs) Bob Bell and this writer will be available to discuss how to make our homes, cabins and properties more resilient against wildfires by FireSmarting them.
You can also sign up if you want an LFR to assist you in doing a free self-assessment of your homes, cabins and properties, and you can win a prize for yourself, your spouse or child at the Open House.
There will be a Kids Table near the FireSmart tables so your youngsters can colour a picture or make a craft while you talk to an LFR.
There will be a water sprinkler display so people can learn how sprinklers around your homes, cabins and outbuildings can be the important last line of defence against a wildfire. Del Westfall and Dave Plenert will answer sprinkler questions and take orders to build your sprinkler systems.
The Green Lake Community Centre and Outdoor Society (formerly the Green Lake Snowmobile Club) will also have an information table at the event. Learn how things are changing and offer suggestions for events the society can consider.
Win the door prize and take home some pies
When visitors come into the Fire Hall, they should sign up for the door prize.
Once again, the Auxiliary members will have their famous apple, blueberry, blueberry Saskatoon and strawberry rhubarb pies for sale at $10 each. The concession crew will be offering hot dogs, chips, pop, water and coffee by donation
All of the volunteers are looking forward to seeing you at this annual event.
