Martell story much appreciated

To the editor:

Congratulations to Arlene Jongbloets for doing such a wonderful story on Dorothy Martell.

It was my privilege to know Gordon and Dorothy, both as neighbours when I was very young at Canim Lake and after they moved to 100 Mile House.

Both of them were deeply involved in various organizations in

100 Mile House.

As well as being in the Lions Club, Gordon was one of the first volunteer ambulance drivers in the area and was involved in the construction of the 100 Mile Community Hall as well as its renovation later on.

During my time as editor and a reporter at the Free Press, I had the opportunity to interview Dorothy on a number of occasions and get to know her better.

She was a formidable and gracious lady who cared deeply about her community and her family. 100 Mile House, indeed the whole South Cariboo, is a better place because she lived and worked here. Through the Free Press, I hope I can express my sadness to her family at her passing. It was a long, full life and one that was well lived.
