The City of Duncan has more traffic congestion than any other small city on Vancouver Island, perhaps in all of British Columbia, yet our city council continues on with nonsensical projects like scramble crosswalks and divided bike lanes under the guise of safety.
Existing bike lanes on Government Street and Canada Avenue are virtually unused and many other cities are now removing bike lanes due to traffic congestion and safety concerns.
Ninety-nine per cent of the traffic in the city is motorists and that will not change with the addition of bike lanes.
Neither of these projects has community support, yet our mayor and city council continue to act against the best interests of the community at large. Both of these projects will simply exacerbate an already dire traffic situation. Small business will suffer as motorists become fed up with the endless traffic congestion and emergency services like police, fire and ambulance will be unable to respond in a timely manner.
