Letter: Bus an essential service

This is taking a physical toll on many
letters

The recent vote to end the Cowichan Valley Transit strike has been rejected by the union members.

At this point the provincial government should step in. This is an essential service for the disabled, elderly, workers, children, etc. The main food shopping for many is at Cowichan Commons (Walmart) where low income people do their food shopping. People with vehicles drive there. I have a vehicle, I live in a neighbouring community, but I see the daily struggle of people with walkers, crutches, pushing their possessions in front of them, walking up the highway verge. Dangerous and tragic.

I was a union member/shop steward. I am all for unions but this is an ESSENTIAL service.

Please go to binding arbitration or, at the least, a mediator. This has gone on long enough. It's summer, it's hot and this is taking a physical toll on many.
