Spring brings some change to the Lac La Hache monthly bulletin. Barb Hansen has retired from writing your monthly update, and I have decided to give it a go. My name is Doug Witty, and I have lived in the area permanently since 2013, but my family has roots here date back to 1975. Many of you may remember my father, Jack Witty, who was a regular contributor to the paper before he passed.
April has seen some big changes at the Lac La Hache Fire Department. There was a competition held for the position of Chief. Eric Herl, a long-time member and Deputy Chief, is now the newly appointed Fire Chief at this hall. The Greeny Lake Fire Hall has been successful in getting a $32,000 grant from the Union of BC Municipalities. This money is earmarked for an update to radios and pagers and firefighting equipment for the coming fire season.
The water is open on Lac La Hache, and boating season is already here. With an early season on the go, it is a great idea to check all your personal safety gear and make sure you are ready for a fun, safe boating season.
The flea market on April 26 was a great success. With 28 vendors, there was a wide selection of items from knitting, soap, baking, woodworking and much more. This is a great place to come out and meet your neighbours, grab some lunch or become a vendor. It is a very social atmosphere where people come for lunch, and there are both inside and outside spots in the summertime. Every last Sunday of the month will see a repeat of this beautiful and amazing marketplace.
May will be a busy month with the Spring Fling and an ATV Poker Derby at Mt. Timothy on May 17. Spring Fling is a Community Gathering with Indoor and Outdoor exhibitions, crafters, non-profits, food trucks and live music!
Mt. Timothy is putting on a full day of entertainment called the Muddy May Long. ATV’s, dirt bikes and side-by-sides are welcome. The restaurant will be open, there will be free camping for RVs and a Jam Night at the lodge. Remember to put those in your Calendar as May 17 will be a busy day in Lac La Hache, and up on the mountain top. In addition to all this good fun, there is an ongoing bake sale at the post office from May 12 to 16, so worth the trip to Lac La Hache to pick up some goodies and support the community.
I look forward to bringing you the news and happenings around Lac La Hache as I get more connected and up to date on community happenings.
