The Interlakes Horse Club (IHC) is holding a special Halloween event for “everyone” including non-members, from 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Interlakes Rodeo Grounds.

Ride in the Freestyle Competition! Bring your own music and perform English, Western, in hand or at liberty for a maximum of three minutes. Judged for creativity, movement and costume, prizes will be awarded up to sixth place. And enjoy a spooky Obstacle Course! Bring your best Halloween snacks to share, and have an amazing time!  Remember, spectators are always welcome at IHC events!

Interlakes Community Centre

The Interlakes Community Centre (ICC) is offering afternoon duplicate bridge lessons3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on seven Wednesdays from Oct. 16 to Nov. 27—a great opportunity to get involved with the best card game ever. Duplicate bridge is a form of ”regular” bridge but the hands are kept as dealt, and then played by different players. ICC suggests that potential players go to www.acbl.org to try a few hands. Then, call Carney Myers at 250-706-2786 to sign up!  Members of ICC pay $2 per visit; $3 for non-members.

For those who already play duplicate, it is at 6:45 p.m., Thursdays; call Wendy at 250-593-4538 if you plan to attend—this is to ensure there is enough players.

The ICC is also accepting Christmas Giftbox donations for our neighbours in need. They can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays, or call Crista at 250-593-4869 to arrange otherwise. All basic canned goods are in demand, plus cereals, toiletries, pet foods, school lunch “snacks” and gift cards.

E-transfer donations can be sent to interlakescommunity1@outlook.com with “hampers” in the memo. To receive a tax receipt, include your name and mailing address. To add someone to the recipient list, contact Susan Pizzuto at 778-908-3924, email susan.pizzuto@gmail.com or call Joyce McGregor at Deka Lake at 250-644-7540.

Deka Lake and District Volunteer Fire Department Food Drive

The Deka Lake and District Volunteer Fire Department's (DLDVFD) annual Food Drive for Interlakes Christmas Giftboxes is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3. Residents are asked to take their non-perishable food or cash donations to either the Deka Hall or Sulphurous Hall during those hours. They are sincerely appreciated.

Mountain Spruce Community Centre

The Mountains Sprice Community Centre 's(MSCC) Sept. 19 board meeting established the following executive positions: President, Jack Ashworth; Secretary, Jen Ostlund; Treasurer, Shanon Sadlowski, and Hall Co-ordinator Darlene Furber.

MSCC now requires a $2 drop-in fee, either included in the “event” fee, or added on, to cover hall expenses—coffee/creamer, TP, internet, cleaning, insurance, etc. Please do not forget to drop a twoonie in the box when you attend such things as Jam Night or Yoga with Prairie.

Nikki Pixs Photography will take photos with Santa of your pets, or whomever you choose, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 30. To book your time slot, call/ text Shannon at 604-617-7863, or e-mail  mtnspruce@gmail.com Or you can just show up to 7571 Pettyjohn Road, Sulphurous Lake and wait in line. All pictures are by donation ($20 suggested) and all proceeds go to Lakeland Pet Rescue and MSCC Society. Your photos will be sent via e-mail.

Starting Tuesday, October 15, a new Gentle Flow Yoga class will be instructed by Stacey Borge at 6:30 p.m. Whilst lengthening and strengthening, your nervous system will relax and energy levels balance out.

The hall will be decorated at 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 29; helpers will be warmly welcomed.

Deka Lake & District Ratepayer's Association

Deka’s channel buoys were removed in late September. Floating anchor buoys are still there to guide you if you venture up to Big Deka but watch the depth as the lake is extremely low. Sulphurous Lake’s boat launch guiding buoys will also be out shortly but, again, due to low water, be very wary when launching or taking your boat out.

Greetings

Happy wedding anniversary to Patty & Tom Nash; and to Sharon & Dan Stewart.

Birthday bubbly goes to Genevieve Amy, Marion Mickelsen, Diana Souther and Monty Furber.
