Interlakes Christmas Fair well attended

Diana Forster's regular column to the Free Press

There were many wondrous creations to purchase at Interlakes Community Centre’s (ICC) Christmas Fair on Nov. 9 including from several vendors who braved an outdoor spot. Among their number was 70 Mile’s Kelly Maydiniuk with her delicious "Gingerbaked" creations. FYI, Kelly is also a Mary Kay representative.

Remember that ICC is accepting donations for Interlakes’ Christmas hampers, some 25 of which are given to neighbours who could use a little help this year. (Note that the hampers always include gifts and some clothing.) Food or cash can be taken to the hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays; or by calling Crista at 250-593-4869. E-transfer donations can be sent to interlakescommunity1@outlook.com with “hampers” in the memo.

To receive a tax receipt, include your name and mailing address. To add someone to the recipient list, contact Susan Pizzuto at 778-908-3924, email susan.pizzuto@gmail.com; or Joyce McGregor at Deka Lake, 250-644-7540.

ICC is still looking for volunteers to help assemble the Christmas hampers on Dec.19, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call Susan at 778-908-3924 if you can help. They are most grateful to those who have already committed to help in other areas.

Interlakes Horse Club (IHC)

A reminder that IHC’s Annual General Meeting and Awards Dinner is Dec.14. The AGM is at 4 p.m., dinner at 5 p.m., and awards at 6 p.m. The event is free for members; $20 for non-members. RSVP to interlakeshorseclub@gmail.com with the names of those attending.

Ladies of the Cariboo Lakes (LCL)

Another reminder that LCL, which has a Facebook page, is accepting donations of “new, essential daily-use products for at-risk people” until Dec. 10. The drop-off points are: Lorna’s, 7524 Burgess, Deka; or Lisa’s, 7118 Boulanger, West Sheridan (where there is a drop barrel to the right of the cattle guard.) You may also e-mail theladiesofthecariboolakes@gmail.com.

Donors are welcome to help pack the bags and enjoy a Christmas Social at  Lisa’s home, at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Deka Lake Christmas Lights Tour

Residents can submit their own or their neighbour’s decorated Deka address to the tour list by Dec. 10, which gives Mountain Site Services time to prepare the tour map. Just text 604-617-7863 or e-mail mmsiteservices@outlook.com

Voting starts on Dec.15 and ends at midnight on Dec. 24. The winner, chosen by community votes, will be announced Christmas morning and will receive one hour of free snow-plowing, or one hour of backhoe services in the spring, donated by the company.

Greetings

Birthday bubbly goes to Brittanie Kerr on her “grown-up” birthday; and to Joan Hanzel, Jenny Ostlund and Bev Traxler.
