Great shows folks

U15 B cup soccer and food network gathering

Once again, 100 Mile House residents have pulled together to successfully host a couple of provincial events and they have done it in spades.

This past weekend, in fact, there were two provincial events being held in 100 Mile - the U15 B Cup Boys and Girls Provincials soccer championships and the annual BC Food Systems Network Gathering.

In both cases, the hospitality and friendliness of the residents of this area shone through, and people went home with warm feelings about 100 Mile House and the neighbouring communities.

On the other hand, our visitors also brought some wonderful experiences of their own to the table.

In the case of the Food Gathering, guests brought a wealth of information about food systems and security and led discussions on healthy, sustainable alternatives.

Not only did the speakers and guests bring information about food, but they also talked about success stories and shared inspirational goals for those gathered for the event.

There was a warm, happy glow coming from those participating in the event and, undoubtedly, everyone took home something positive from the event.

It was much the same at our wonderful soccer complex, which featured four pitches that were in superb condition, and the word was they're certainly among the best in the Interior.

With the top male and female soccer players in their age group competing for the title of the best in the province, the complex was buzzing with activity and excitement throughout the four-day event.

Parents and players were shouting encouragement to their children and teammates, but perhaps more importantly, good plays were being cheered regardless of which team the player was from.

The host organizing committee and the volunteers who put in endless hours at the soccer complex to ensure everything went off smoothly set that attitude.

We tip our hats to them and our visitors.

But, we are most proud of our 100 Mile girls and boys players, coaches and managers who, despite being over-matched by the visiting teams, were never outclassed and never gave up or hung their heads.

Both teams truly deserved to be recognized as most sportsmanlike - well done.
