The Deka Lake and District Ratepayers' Association has placed the Sulphurous Launch guide buoys back in the lake. Just let them know if one goes missing, is damaged or needs to be moved.
They are grateful to the volunteers who maintained the Sulphurous picnic area grass and would appreciate hearing from anyone who would like to take it on this year, or organize a work party every now and then.
Don’t forget the Clean Up morning on May 24!
A reminder that 2025 membership fees are due—$7 per person or $10 for a family.
For those who are new to the area, you’ll find answers to your questions on the website at dekalake-district.ca
Easter Egg Hunt
Children from all over enjoyed the April 19 Easter Egg Hunt in Mountain Spruce Community Park, with some 180 people attending. It was a beautiful day for such an event, and MSCC is most grateful to all those who visited and for their generous donations.
Condolences
Residents were deeply saddened to learn that Wayne Lowrey passed away April 6 at the age of 71, and send their sincere condolences to his family and especially his wife, Barb. Barb used to live at Deka, and many of us remember the joyous day when Wayne and Barb found each other and became husband and wife. May those beautiful yesterdays always remain in her heart, and her sorrow gently fade away.
Interkales Horse Club (IHC)
IHC’s April 26 inaugural Poker Ride was a great success enjoyed by many riders, so everyone is now looking forward to the next one! Many thanks go to Event Head Shannon, Registration Table/Card Holder Christine, and the many volunteers who managed the Card Chairs, and congratulations to all the prize winners.
Regarding their Join Buckle Series which starts June 8, IHC is grateful to 100 Mile Feed & Ranch Supply Ltd. for holding a draw to award a $1,000 youth saddle to a youth participant who has entered at least one gymkhana event at each of the three participating locations: Interlakes, 100 Mile and 70 Mile. IHC will showcase the saddle at their events to inspire young riders to put in the work.
IHC also reminds members who use the rodeo grounds that all equipment must be put away when they are finished using the arena, not left in a mess like on one recent occasion.
Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department Society (IVFD)
IVFD Society’s annual Garage Sale is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the Interlakes Rodeo Grounds. If you have goods to donate, please contact Lynn at 604-209-3119 or Dale at 250-593-4302 to arrange for drop-off between May 14 and June 30.
Friends of Sheridan Lake Society (FSLS)
On May 4, FSLS advised that the egg release channel at Sheridan Lake is open for the season and currently has lots of fish in it. To view, just follow the signs on West Sheridan Lake Road.
Bridge Lake Fair (BLF)
BLF appreciates the sponsors of the August Container Contest, which requires entrants to grow their plant/s in a “child’s toy.” No points are awarded, but prizes are generously donated by: Horse Lake Garden Centre, $50 gift certificate first prize; Dan & Sharon, second prize, $25; and Pat, 3rd prize, $10.
Note that a Special Class #42 under Section A Baking calls for “Any baking with maple,” which will award a small prize to the best entry.
Interlakes Community Centre (ICC)
ICC is in need of a volunteer to take water samples to 100 Mile once a month. Contact Crista at 250-593-4869 if you can help.
Greetings
Birthday bubbly goes to Nicki Bonter, Penny Millway, Herb Moser and Dave Ostlund.
