To the editor:
My hat goes off to Christy Clark and all the other leadership candidates who have recognized the importance of establishing British Columbia as a technology leader in the area of clean energy.
Attaining energy self-sufficiency, creating new jobs, spurring innovation and increasing investment opportunities throughout the province are worthy goals, and all are crucial to B.C.'s future.
Clark has been particularly clear on this subject and has stated that, as premier, she will champion clean energy power generation and the responsible development and use of our domestic natural gas resources.
Natural gas is, of course, the cleanest burning fossil fuel. And as Clark has stated, we have an opportunity to build out B.C.'s natural gas infrastructure and convert fleets of diesel trucks and buses to natural gas.
It's the environmentally sensible and economically smart thing to do because natural-gas development is a major source of employment in northeastern communities and the province's largest industrial revenue source.
We have an incredible opportunity in this province to demonstrate global leadership in renewable energy technologies and clean power generation. And as Clark has quite rightly stated, we should be promoting B.C.'s clean energy advantage to the world and taking full advantage of the resources we have.
