After the success of Deka Lake’s 2023 Christmas Light Tour sponsored by Moving Mountains Site Services—which saw an amazing 60 addresses entered— the company is kindly choosing to do it again!
Residents can submit their own or their neighbour’s decorated Deka address to the tour list by Dec. 10. Just text 604-617-7863 or e-mail mmsiteservices@outlook.com. This will allow them time to prepare the tour map.
In 2023, friends and neighbours enjoyed touring the roads to gaze at the wondrous displays, with some even on tractors or ATVs!
Voting starts on Dec. 15 and ends on Dec. 24 at midnight. The winner, chosen by votes from the community, will be announced Christmas morning and will receive one hour of free snow-plowing, or one hour of backhoe services in the spring, donated by the company.
Mountain Spruce Community Centre (MSCC)
Those who did not pick up their pottery bowl at MSCC can do so tomorrow, Nov. 22 at P.V. Cuisine Restaurant (909 Alder Avenue) from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Her other class will be picking up there too. You can have dinner and a Marguerite with everyone or just a drink, or just pick up your bowl—your choice.
There is still time to book your Photos with Santa from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 30. All proceeds go to Lakeland Rescue and MSCC. Call/text Shannon at 604-617-7863 to book your time slot; or just come and wait at 7571 Pettyjohn Road, Sulphurous Lake.
MSCC is also collecting non-perishable food, pet food and new toy donations at its events until Dec. 15, all of which will go to the 100 Mile Food Bank.
Deka Food Drive
Deka Lake & District Volunteer Fire Department thanks residents for their generous donations to this year’s Food Drive for Interlakes Christmas hampers. In addition to “lots” of non-perishable foods, $1,255 in cash was delivered to Roe Lake & District Recreation Commission (Interlakes Community Centre.)
Interlakes Community Centre (ICC)
There was a good turnout for ICC’s Nov. 9 Christmas Craft Fair which offered a wide variety of mostly home-made creations and hosted several new vendors. Three or four vendors even braved an outdoor spot! The lucky winner of the door prize was Diana Wettstein.
A reminder that ICC is accepting donations for Interlakes’ Christmas hampers, some 25 of which are given to neighbours who could use a little help this year. Food or cash can be taken to the hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays; or call Crista at 250-593-4869. E-transfer donations can be sent to interlakescommunity1@outlook.com with “hampers” in the memo. To receive a tax receipt, include your name and mailing address. To add someone to the recipient list, contact Susan Pizzuto at 778-908-3924, email susan.pizzuto@gmail.com; or Joyce McGregor at Deka, 250-644-7540.
ICC is most appreciative of all those volunteers who have offered to help at their upcoming functions.
