The Riding Arena rejuvenation in 70 Mile is coming along nicely.
70 Mile House Riding Arena Committee lead Lori Spencer has provided an update for the extended equine community. She said the footing renewal of the arena is completed and the contractor, South Cariboo Excavating, has done a great job of removing the turf, levelling, packing and scarifying the arena surface. They’ve been paid in full for their services.
Spencer added the fencing and gate have been installed thanks to the donation of labour by 100 Mile Feed & Ranch Supply.
“100 Mile Feed & Ranch Supply has generously donated labour to complete the fencing project.”
Three committee volunteers – Spencer, Karyn Greenlees and Caryl Cornett Henry – did the initial rock picking in the arena on Oct. 23.
Spencer said the rock picking went quickly and there was about one wheelbarrow of rocks and roots collected.
“This will be a typical amount of rocks that will resurface after harrowing and extended use, with the amount of rocks gradually being reduced over time.”
The committee has ordered two signs for the arena.

There will be a big thank-you sign for the donors: Clinton and District Community Forest Fund, Thompson-Nicola Regional District and 100 Mile Feed & Ranch Supply, Spencer noted.
She added a Facebook page needs to be created and the address will be put on the arena usage sign, which will also display rules such as helmets must be worn in the arena, Horse Council BC membership is needed and manure must be removed.
Spencer said Mrs. Marni Miller generously donated funds to purchase the chain harrow.
There are still things that have to be done next spring including: installing a water hydrant at the Community Hall, a water trailer to be made or obtained, and weed spraying.
