The Cowboy Challenge at the 70 Mile Riding Arena on the BC Day long weekend was a great success thanks to a lot of people working to make it happen.
On Friday night, the 70 Mile Volunteer Firefighters held their practice at the arena and wetted it down for the weekend activities. Fire Chief Jeff Warner took the lead on the practice and wetting down the arena floor.
Then Karyn Greenlees harrowed and prepared the arena. The Back Country Horsemen had purchased posts and rails, and the paddocks were completed.
On Saturday morning, 16 obstacles were set up in the arena.
On Saturday afternoon, several riders came and practised their skills on the obstacles. On Sunday morning, Sally Watson provided a pancake and sausage breakfast for all!
Then at 10 a.m., the competitions began with beginners and experienced people maneuvering over all the obstacles, challenging their horses' steady confidence and their riding skills, said 70 Mile Arena committee leader Lori Spencer.
