Feb. 19, 1941 - April 17, 2011
Marven was born Feb. 19, 1941 in Timmins, Ontario. He grew up in Meagher’s Grant, Nova Scotia. He was a hard-working boy who soon decided to join his dad in the family business which was horse logging and the milling of logs. (Throwing his school books in the garbage one day and informing his dad Ralph he would be part of the crew instead of attending school).
At age 25, in the year 1967, he came to B.C. (Lac la Hache) along with his son Rod, who was born 1965, and wife Shirley. There he continued in the logging industry. In 1968 Rick was born, followed by Alana in 1972.
Marven loved to hunt, fish, and ride horses and cause mischief. In the summers he enjoyed his haying and loved working on the ranch. He stayed in the logging industry up until January 2010 – working with pride alongside with his sons in Rod’s Logging Company.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and with his stubbornness and perseverance tried to outlast it. Unfortunately in October 2010 Marven became housebound, eventually he was confined to his bed. This was a hard battle for him as he was used to his freedom of doing (and saying) exactly what he wanted. Shirley continued to care for Marven till his last day.
Marven is predeceased by his first grandchild Travis (who he figured would have ‘the place scoped out’ before his arrival), his father Ralph, his brother Eric and little buddy Buster.
He is survived by his mother Muriel, brothers: Gerald and Morley, sons: Rod (Deb), Rick; daughter Alana; grandchildren: Jordan, Kendall, Chandell, Mikayla, Dakin, Ryan and step-grandchildren: Tanara and Trevor.
The Dillman family will be holding an outdoor open house gathering of friends and family to celebrate Marven’s life the afternoon of Saturday, April 23, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at “The Ranch.”
A special thank you goes to his sparring partner and roommate Shirley.
