Nov. 04, 1963 - Nov. 11, 2012

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Ann (Maggie) Swanson from 108 Mile Ranch, B.C. A loving wife and a cherished friend, Maggie passed away peacefully at 9:23 a.m. on Sunday morning, November 11th, 2012, with her ever-devoted husband of 19 years, Richard (Rick) Swanson, by her side. She left us far too soon at the age of 49 after a hard-fought, tough-as-nails fight with colon cancer.

Predeceased by her father Gordon Smillie and survived by her mother Joan Fendt-Smillie and her brother Andrew Smillie, Maggie had a wonderful life and, though her time was shortened by disease, she was able to visit many countries (especially warm ones), islands, US states, and many parts of Canada. She loved adventure, whether in southern swamps, diving with whale sharks, traipsing through jungles, or at home walking her dogs along the beach. She had a calmness that was infectious. Maggie was a private person, but only because she was so comfortable in her own skin, and she carried herself with confidence right through to the end.

With a quiet demeanour and a wonderful sense of humour, Maggie loved life and immensely enjoyed the Cariboo and its slower, peaceful pace. Originally from Vancouver, she left her dream home in Port Moody and moved to 108 Mile in November 2005 with her husband and her loving dog Buddy, and was later joined by Elita, her Golden Retriever, who loved her to bits.

Maggie worked for Interior Health in 100 Mile and was aptly dubbed the Poo Lady for her work with septic tank permits.

Maggie would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, care aides, pharmacists, and friends who cared so much, and who were at her side through her battle. Thank you to a great world that was filled with laughter, joy, and adventure. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local SPCA.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, November 24th, 2012 at the Swanson home, 4944 Kyllo drive, 108 Mile Ranch BC, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (or for however long it takes to tell all the stories about her great life).
