In loving memory ~
Larry passed away on June 9, 2023, in 100 Mile House, B.C. at the age of 73.
Larry was born on January 15, 1950 in Cranbrook, B.C. He was the youngest of 5 children. He spent his childhood going on hunting and fishing trips with his dad and brother, playing ice hockey and making friends.
Larry worked a variety of part-time jobs, including Canadian Pacific Railway in Cranbrook, Sullivan Mine in Kimberley, and Interior Construction in Penticton before landing a position as a ground man with B.C. Hydro in Cranbrook in 1970. That summer, Larry met the love of his life, Dianne. Larry and Dianne were married in Taber, Alberta on October 6, 1973. After the wedding, they moved directly to Vernon, B.C. so Larry could start his Lineman apprenticeship. This is where they welcomed their two sons, Clint in January of 1975 and Chad in July of 1976. He had a career as a Lineman with B.C. Hydro for 38 years, moving the family to Golden, then to Terrace and finally settling in 108 Mile Ranch in 1986.
Larry was a great family man who enjoyed sharing his passion for hockey, hunting and fishing with his boys. He loved to take his family on camping adventures; he was a true outdoorsman. Larry made many connections throughout his life and was known for being a kind and friendly face with genuine character who was ready to help anyone who needed it. He worked hard and provided for his family. Larry and Dianne loved to travel together, including down to the US in the winter. They enjoyed playing softball, golfing, and curling together.
In more recent years, Larry played Oldtimers hockey, and enjoyed ice fishing and golfing with his friends. He was proud of his boys and always looked forward to group hunting trips in the fall with them. Larry was an amazing grandfather to his grandkids and loved making the trip up to Smithers to spend time with them. He was always ready to play a game, read a book, or throw or kick a ball.
Larry leaves behind his loving wife of almost 50 years, Dianne, his two sons Clint (Tracey) of Lake Country and Chad (Kayla) of Smithers, his three grandchildren, Carson, Callie, and Chloe, as well as his sisters Bernice and Patsy of Sherwood Park, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Metro, mother, Alice, sister Evelyn (Tootsie) and brother Irvin.
He was loved very much and will be dearly missed. A Celebration of Larry's Life is scheduled for Friday, July 28th at 1:00 pm at the 108 Community Centre.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the BC Cancer Agency. There is a tribute page set up for donations to be made in Larry's memory.
