Arne Harold Borhaven

On July 23, 2023, Arne Harold Borhaven passed away peacefully at the age of 75 due to health complications. He was surrounded by his loved ones at his time of passing at the remarkable Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home in Kamloops, B.C.
Arne was born to Emily and Roger Borhaven on May 30, 1948, in New Westminster, B.C. The second eldest of seven children (Lynne, Arne, Sherle, Heather, Freddy, Eric, and Roger), he was extremely close with his siblings, bonded in both mischief-making and watching out for each other. His loving mom, Emily, was the heart of the family.
In Arne's high school years, he and his family moved to 100 Mile House, B.C. One of his first jobs was at the Esso where he apprenticed as a mechanic, his lifelong profession, and met his beloved wife of almost 53 years, Lynne Borhaven (nee Hawkshaw). They went on to have two daughters, Naomi Jensen (nee Borhaven) and Nicole Borhaven, becoming the most unconditionally loving parents two girls could ask for. An accomplished builder, Arne built their first family home, a beautiful log house on 10 acres with a hobby farm, in the Horse Lake area with Lynne.
Some of Arne's loves were family and friends (first and foremost), fishing, horseback riding, hobby farming, Westerns (movies and books), and food (cooking and eating). Most will remember him with a playful sense of humour and wit, forever telling jokes, playing tricks, and making people laugh. With this came a kind heart which he exhibited through roles such as coaching his wife and daughters' softball teams; being a member of Rotary and Team Penning; and president of The Great Cariboo Ride. Arne also worked for Ainsworth Lumber as a heavy-duty mechanic and then went on to own the Husky gas station for many years.
In 2002, Arne had a stroke and was told he would never walk again. His resiliency and strength were an inspiration as he did, indeed, walk again and pushed onward through continued health issues, his laughter and playfulness rarely absent.
In 2021, Arne and Lynne moved to Kamloops to be closer to their daughters, four grandchildren (Nathan, Austin, Olivia, and Alex), their devotion to their family ever-present. Arne's highlights in these final years were spending time with family, going out to restaurants, watching baseball, and attending a day program twice a week at Ponderosa where he grew friendships with the amazing staff and participants.
In our hearts, we know he was greeted on the other side by his mother, brothers (Freddy and Roger), and grandson (Owen), among other loved ones who he loved deeply, including his pets. We will miss him incredibly but know that he watches over us in spirit and we will be with him again one day.
