City of Vernon will begin work on a rock slope stabilization project on Eastside Road, heading toward Hurlburt Park and Ellison Provincial Park Tuesday, May 20. The work will result in intermittent 30-minute road closures.

Visitors to Vernon's Hurlburt and Ellison Provincial parks, along with residents in the area, should take note of road work starting nearby.

There will be intermittent 30-minute road closures on Eastside Road due to rock scaling and excavation for the city's rock slope stabilization project.

The work begins Tuesday, May 20, and runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Tuesday, June 3.

"Residents should plan their commutes around these road closures over the next two weeks, from Monday through Saturday," said the city.

The rock stabilization project is scheduled to be completed this spring, but a portion of the work may be deferred until the fall.

Two other projects will begin in June.

There will be short-term traffic interruptions in the 3100 block of 35th Street from June 4-6, and single-lane alternating traffic will be in place on Apex Drive from 9-11.

The following construction schedule is subject to change due to the contractor’s schedule and other external factors:

• May 20-23, 9730-9734 Eastside Road;

• May 24-27, 9600 Eastside Road;

• May 28-June 3, 9483 Eastside Road;

• June 4–6, 3100 block of 35th Street (road closure);

• June 9–11, Apex Drive (single-lane alternating traffic).

"The safety of motorists and construction personnel is a priority," said the city. "Please adhere to traffic control measures and detours. The City of Vernon appreciates the patience of residents and motorists while these safety measures are completed."
