Portable toilets have been set up at Rotary Beach in Summerland after the men’s washroom was recently vandalized.

Acts of vandalism at a Summerland beach and at the bandshell are currently under investigation.

In his report to council on July 8, Graham Statt, Chief Administrative Officer for Summerland said the men’s washroom at Rotary Beach was vandalized recently.

The facility has been closed for an extended period of time as police investigated and municipal crews cleaned up.

Temporary portable toilets have been placed at the site, to allow continued access to washroom facilities.

In addition, graffiti was painted at the bandshell in Memorial Park.

Coun. Erin Trainer said the cost of the vandalism so far this year has come to $11,156.03.

Statt urges people to contact the Summerland RCMP if they have information about vandalism in the community.

Those witnessing vandalism occurring should call 911 while the act is taking place. Those with later information are asked to call the non-emergency number at 250-494-7416.
