Canada Day is this Saturday and residents around the South Cariboo will be celebrating the country’s birthday. Here are a few ideas on how to spend the day.
CLINTON
Head to Reg Conn Park in Clinton starting at 10:30 a.m., when you can collect Canada Day mini-flags and pins. There will be a flag-raising ceremony at 11 a.m., face painting and yard games from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., free barbecued hot dogs from noon to 1 p.m., and free Canada Day cupcakes at 12:30 p.m.
The Clinton Seniors’ Association will be hosting their annual Canada Day yard sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Seniors’ Centre (just around the corner from the park at 217 Smith Avenue). From 1 to 2 p.m., there will be a talent show at the park, which is open to anyone between the ages of 5 and 15. Sign-up in advance is necessary (deadline is 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 29), and sign-up sheets are available at the village office and David Stoddart School. 70 MILE
There will be a Redneck Craft Fair in 70 Mile on July 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the community hall. The Thompson-Nicola Regional District is supplying lunch (barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs), the 70 Mile Volunteer Fire Department will be there to show off their fire equipment and skills, and in addition to a variety of vendors there will be a Jenga toilet paper toss and more fun and games.
BRIDGE LAKE STAMPEDE
If you’re in the mood for a rodeo, the Bridge Lake Stampede is taking place at the Bridge Lake Rodeo Grounds. A pancake breakfast gets underway at 9:30 a.m. with the main events starting at noon. Finish out the day with the outdoor dance at 7 p.m. Free camping with admission. Adult admission is $20; seniors $15; kids five to 12, $10; under five, free. Admission to the dance is $10.
INTERLAKES
There is a community barbeque taking place at 4 p.m. at the Mountain Spruce Community Centre. Bring a chair, your own meat or item for the barbeque as well as a side dish or dessert to share. Spend an enjoyable evening with family and friends while toasting marshmallows over the fire pit. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available free of charge. Pop and water are available for $1.
The Deka Lake Volunteer Fire Department is hosting an open house at the fire hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Chief Dori Dennison will be talking to the community about fire protection at 11 a.m. People are welcome to climb up on a fire truck and operate a hose. Draw tickets for a rooftop sprinkler or a fire extinguisher will be on sale. Free refreshments.
The Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department is holding a garage sale from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Interlakes Rodeo Grounds. In addition to a silent auction, there will be hot dogs, refreshments and a bake sale. Please bring cash.
108 HERITAGE
SITE
Opening ceremonies are at 10 a.m. with live entertainment getting started at 10:30. There will be performances by Tracy Lynn, Peter Thorne and more. The 100 Mile Cruzers Car Club and members of Cariboo Bladed Combat will be onsite. There will be a bouncy castle, kid’s games and over 45 vendors plus a schoolhouse storytime and kid’s firefighting challenge. BBQ burgers and other concession items will be on hand. Free cupcakes at 2:30 p.m.
100 MILE HOUSE
Party in the Park 2023. The Cariboo Charitable Events Society is proud to present Aaron Pritchett live at the South Cariboo Recreation Centre. With special guests, Chris Buck Band, Elyse Saunders, and local artists Tracy Lynn with This Mama Tried and Joe Baily! Come have a great time and support the 100 Mile House Senior housing project.
