100 Mile Police responded to 59 complaints and calls for service. Some highlights are attached.
Dumpster fires
On Feb. 28 at approximately 3 a.m., 100 Mile Fire Department and 100 Mile RCMP responded to two garbage dumpster fires in the parking lot of the Cariboo Mall in 100 Mile House. The blaze was extinguished without any significant damage to property. Shortly afterwards, a witness reported three male teens running away from Peter Skene Ogden (PSO) Secondary school. One youth was carrying a shovel. Three windows were discovered smashed at the school. Two other garbage dumpsters at PSO has also been set on fire but the fires extinguished themselves with minimal damage to property. A witness described one of the youth as wearing a hoody and another was described as having blonde hair. Anyone knowing the identity of the three youth or having any information about these mischief and arsons is asked to call the 100 Mile House RCMP or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Stolen pick-up
On Feb. 23, 100 Mile RCMP received a complaint that a 2001 grey Dodge pick-up had been stolen from a resort on Lac des Roches on Highway 97. The vehicle was last seen headed east on Highway 24. The owner of the vehicle located the pick-up a short distance away parked on the side of the road. Witnesses indicated that two male suspects were seen getting into a small white car and continuing east on Highway 24. Clearwater RCMP attended to assist. The suspect's vehicle description was forwarded on to the detachments at Barriere and Valemont. Anyone having information about this theft is asked to call the 100 Mile House RCMP or call Crime Stoppers.
Snowy road dangerous
On Feb. 23, 100 Mile RCMP and 100 Mile Traffic Services responded to a collision on the Wright Station curves in the new four lane section of Highway 97. The female driver of a north bound Toyota Corolla went out to pass a loaded semi-trailer unit in the four lane. The passing lane was snow covered and the passing vehicle encountered a rut that pulled the Toyota back into the semi-trailer. The Toyota impacted the semi-trailer and then was pushed across the southbound lanes. The vehicle slid sideways into the snowbank and then rolled down over the 60 foot embankment. The vehicle came to rest upright on the old portion of Highway 97. Rescue units from Lac la Hache and 100 Mile House responded. The driver was placed on a stretcher and pulled up the embankment by rope recovery. The driver was taken by ambulance to Williams Lake hospital with minor injuries. No charges are being considered at this time.
Loss of control
On Feb. 22, 100 Mile Traffic Services and 100 Mile RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 97 and the 99 Mile hill. The driver of a 1998 Ford Taurus travelling north on Highway 97 lost control on the curve. The driver crossed over into the oncoming lane, corrected and then travelled back into the north-bound ditch. The vehicle rolled an flipped onto its roof. Emergency crews attended but the driver was not hurt. The vehicle was towed from the scene. No charges are being considered at this time.
