Scams come in all forms

Letter sent to local resident in search identity information

A letter addressed to a local resident looked legitimate.

Originating in London, the letter stated Mr. John David, an accountant for Gateway Professional Inc., had been looking for beneficiaries for the Estate of George Eckert.

After several years of looking for relatives of Mr. Eckert the letter stated, in part, that by law any unclaimed deposit proceeds that have been left without activity, the holder (Gateway) must transfer the unclaimed proceeds to the treasury division as unclaimed funds.

To claim the inheritance Mr. David asked for personal information, such as address, phone, e-mail address, to be e-mailed or faxed to him.

It's still a scam, no matter how professional the letter looks.
