RCMP seeking public input on policing priorities

100 Mile RCMP responded to 60 complaints and calls for service during the past week.

Input sought

The 100 Mile RCMP are in the process of formulating the detachment priorities for the 2011/12 fiscal year. Last year's priorities included:

• Providing enhanced policing to the First Nations community.

• Reducing the abuse of drugs by targeting drug production and distribution charges.

• Reducing the abuse of alcohol through education.

• Contributing to safe roads by targeting traffic offences.

• Contributing to safe roads by targeting impaired drivers.

If there are members of the public who wish to comment on these priorities, they are asked to submit their comments in writing to the detachment. The mailing address is NCO i/c RCMP; Box 37, 726 Alpine Ave.; 100 Mile House, B.C.; V0K 2E0.

Excessive speeding

On March 5, 100 Mile Traffic Services initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle on Highway 97 south of 100 Mile House for speeding.

The driver of the vehicle was determined to be operating the vehicle at a speed that qualified the driver to have his vehicle impounded under the excessive speeding regulations.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver was issued a ticket for excessive speed.

Attempted theft

On March 4, 100 Mile RCMP responded to a complaint that unknown culprits had attempted to steal a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire from a residence in the 93 Mile area.

The ignition had been punched and the vehicle had been moved from the residence. The vehicle was located nearby.

Anyone having information about this theft is asked to call the 100 Mile House RCMP at 250-395-2456 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Domestic assault

On March 1, 100 Mile RCMP responded to a domestic assault at a residence in the 103 Mile.

A male suspect had allegedly threatened and assaulted his common-law girlfriend. The man was arrested and detained.

He was released later on a promise to appear with conditions and a court date in April. The investigation into this matter is continuing.
