A pair of vehicles' lug nuts were loosened in the 800 block of Cariboo Trail last week.
100 Mile House RCMP Sgt. Brian Lamb said this incident was one of 125 calls for service the RCMP responded to last week. Lamb said the lug nuts were loosened off the wheels by an unknown individual(s) sometime over the preceding days leading up to June 18, when the incident was reported.
"It is something that people would not necessarily notice until a wheel fell off, as how often do people really check the lug nuts on the vehicle? Obviously, this poses a significant safety risk for the occupants of the vehicle and other motorists or pedestrians," Lamb noted.
Anyone who has noticed a similar issue in the last two weeks is asked to contact the RCMP so they can determine if this is an isolated incident or part of a pattern of criminal mischief.
Vehicle strikes building on Horse Lake Road
On June 18, Lamb said RCMP responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision on Horse Lake Road.
Lamb said RCMP and EHS attended the scene, where they found the vehicle had left the road after striking some traffic pylons set up in the area for recent road construction. After striking the pylons, the vehicle struck a fence and then a residential building.
"The single occupant of the vehicle was taken to hospital by EHS for undetermined injuries," Lamb said. "There was significant damage to the structure on the property. There were no injuries to any occupant of the property."
Impairment was not believed to have been a contributing factor, Lamb noted. The incident remains under investigation.
Vehicle fails to stop for school bus
School District 27 reported that a vehicle failed to stop for a school bus on June 18.
The incident occurred along Highway 24 near Lone Butte. Lamb said RCMP reviewed video footage provided by SD 27 and could clearly see the vehicle failed to stop for the school bus when its red lights were flashing.
The RCMP will be following up with the owner of this vehicle.
Motorcycle strikes deer on Highway 97
On June 21, 2025, RCMP received a report of a motorcycle collision with a deer on Highway 97 near Maze Lake Road.
Lamb said officers determined that the motorcycle had been heading south when a deer jumped in front of it. This caused the vehicle to strike the deer and throw its rider from the bike.
"The driver reported minor injuries that did not require medical assistance and the motorcycle was destroyed," Lamb said. "RCMP have received numerous reports of vehicle collisions in the last several weeks involving deer."
