Local Mounties will welcome the public to an open house at Nanaimo RCMP detachment this weekend.
The event happens Saturday (May 14) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the detachment at 303 Prideaux St. to give people a chance to meet and interact with RMCP members in the numerous roles police take on to serve their community and to view the array of resources the detachment has at its disposal.
The Tactical Armoured Vehicle used by the Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team will be on display, plus officers with the Tactical Response Team, Marine Section, Forensic Identification Unit and RCMP Dive Team will be on hand to answer questions.
Police cars, DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) vehicle and an RCMP motorcycle on display, guided tours will be offered of the recently renovated detachment cell block, plus children's games throughout the day.
A barbecue, sponsored by Save-On-Foods, will also be cooking up festive cuisine for cash to support Nanaimo RCMP Victim Services.
"We are very proud of our detachment and the members that serve throughout Nanaimo. We are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase our resources and to meet and greet as many of you as possible," Supt. Mark Fisher, officer in charge of Nanaimo RCMP detachment, said in a press release.
