Pile burning to be conducted in Centennial Park this month

Burning could begin as soon as March 5, if conditions are favourable

The BC Wildfire Service and 100 Mile Fire Rescue will be conducting pile burning in Centennial Park this month. 

This project may begin as early as March 5, 2025, if conditions are favourable and allow for venting. During the burning smoke may be visible from 100 Mile House and to motorists along Highway 97. The BC Wildfire Service said that wildfire personnel and 100 Mile Fire Rescue members will carefully prepare, control and monitor these piles at all times. 

A BC Wildfire Service information officer told the simplymastery these piles are from previous fire mitigation efforts and are intended to reduce the fire hazard in the 100 Mile House area. These fires will be category two open fires, which refers to a fire no more than two metres tall and three metres wide. 

Anyone looking to report a wildfire is asked to contact 1-800-663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cellphone. Up-to-date information on fire categories and relevant restrictions in the Cariboo Fire Centre can be found at gov.bc.ca.
