Clarification on the overnight parking policy at the South Cariboo Rec Centre was received at a recent meeting of the South Cariboo Joint Committee.
In the past, the Rec Centre parking lot has been used by overnight visitors who are passing through the area and by groups holding events.
While travellers parking overnight is not allowed, questions arose over what allowance there was for overnight parking during events being held at the Rec Centre and whether a zoning amendment would be needed to enact a policy allowing overnight parking during these events.
The District of 100 Mile House planning department confirmed the property zoning allows for the use as a campground. As a result, during summer events only, registered participants will be allowed to park overnight when renting the parking lot or fields.
The policy will be reflected in the rental agreements used by Canlan Sports when booking space for user groups. Currently, fees for overnight parking will be included in the price of the field rentals. Groups are already encouraged to provide additional porta-potty washrooms for large events and additional maintenance of the permanent outdoor washrooms can be arranged in advance.
Two signs will also be posted on the property stating that overnight parking is not allowed at any other time.
