The 56th Annual North Central Local Government Association (NCLGA) annual general meeting in Prince Rupert on May 11-13 will be important for the District of 100 Mile House representatives.
Coun. Bill Hadden and Donna Bellingham, district deputy director of corporate administration, will be joining Mayor Mitch Campsall at the meeting.
Both Hadden and Campsall are vying for positions on the NCLGA board.
The mayor says he is seeking election as the board's first vice-president, and as far as he knows, no one has put his or her name forward to run against him.
He adds Hadden, who is seeking the director-at-large position on the board, might be a bit busier, as there are a number of people in the running for that seat.
However, Bellingham will probably be the busiest of the 100 Mile trio, as she will be taking notes furiously at every venue at the AGM because 100 Mile House will be hosting it around the same time next year.
"It's a huge thing for us because there will be up to 300 members, numerous spouses, and some non-members will be attending; it will bring a lot of money into 100 Mile," Campsall says, adding the AGM will be co-sponsored by the Cariboo Regional District.
"The more conventions we can get in our community, obviously the more dollars are going to be spent here.
"We want to make it a real success and showcase our municipality and the South Cariboo. We'll be doing that big time."
Campsall says his council submitted a resolution that will be discussed during the AGM, as the local councillors want seniors to receive Medical Services Plan premiums free of charge.
"Every other province in Canada gives its seniors free medical services and that's what we're asking for. We're not talking about a lot of money for the seniors, but when they're on a fixed income, every dollar is really important."
