A suspicious death in Port Renfrew is now being treated as a homicide, according to Vancouver Island RCMP.

Sooke RCMP were called to the area of Pachidah Road around 9 p.m. on June 23 after receiving a report of a man covered in blood. Officers found another man at the scene with serious injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) has since taken over the investigation.

“Evidence collected at this stage of the investigation suggests this was an isolated incident," said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alex Berube. “One individual was arrested at the scene.”

Police have not released further details. Anyone with information is asked to contact the VIIMCU information line at 250-380-6211.
