Mail-in HST referendum will be earlier

As promised in her B.C. Liberal leadership campaign, Premier Christy Clark has paved the road to an early referendum date on the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).

Her government is working toward a mail-in, province-wide referendum and has set June 24 as the targeted date.

On March 25, Attorney General Barry Penner announced the early HST vote would be conducted under the authority of the Referendum Act, which ensures a simple majority will determine the winner of the vote, as promised by former premier Gordon Campbell.
