Important seniors housing forum set for Jan. 24

AGE FRIENDLY Society of the South Cariboo urging area seniors to attend

Housing has been a topic of high interest to people in the South Cariboo who are aged 55 and over as they look at options to plan for future needs, says the AGE FRIENDLY Society of the South Cariboo's (AFSSC) executive director Lea Smirfitt.

On Jan. 24, the AFSSC is hosting a housing forum in the 100 Mile Community Hall from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

What will be happening at the forum?

"We will have a panel of guest presenters providing information on different types of housing and on an inventory of what is available now together with plans for future development. We have invited local builders to provide displays of housing models appropriate for seniors."

A light lunch will also be provided followed by a conversation on people's thoughts for planning to meet housing needs, Smirfitt notes.

Why is AFSSC hosting this forum now?

"First of all, we know that based on population numbers, we need to be planning for future South Cariboo housing needs now! We have builders and developers interested in building housing and we need input from local seniors in order to answer questions about needs and wishes for housing.

"In addition to informing seniors about housing options, we also want to kick start a detailed and confidential housing survey from which we will compile a detailed "wish list" for seniors housing." The results from the survey will be able to be used by builders to develop proposals to build appropriate seniors housing in the South Cariboo, Smirfitt explains.

"Your input on housing needs is very important and we also want to share information that will help you plan for your housing needs and wishes."

Folks are asked to RSVP either to sc.agefriendly@gmail.com or by phoning the South Cariboo Rec. Centre at 250-395-1353.

"Please help spread the word by telling your friends and neighbours about this event.
