Open burning bans in the Cariboo went into effect at noon Monday, while a forest fire in the Forest Grove area was still in the mop-up stage.
The fire was reported on May 1 just off Wilcox Road near Bradley Creek and was 100 per cent contained at 3.3 hectares by the next day.
Cariboo Fire Centre fire information officer Jenny Fremlin says forestry firefighters responded on Sunday evening for a grassfire that spread into the trees.
The cause of the initial fire is still under investigation, she says, adding no local fire departments were called to assist with mutual aid.
Fremlin notes this is the 14th fire the centre has fought in the Cariboo this year, with 13 of those confirmed as human-caused, and 11 of them in April.
Half of these forest fires have occurred in the South Cariboo.
A fire restriction, including an open burning ban was put into effect by the fire centre as of noon on May 2.
"We are restricting grass burning of any sort, the use of fireworks and burn barrels, and burning anything in piles [larger than] one metre by one metre."
Since the burning of smaller campfires is still allowed, Fremlin reminds people to use safe burning practices, such as never burn when it is windy, and ensuring adequate tools, water and people are on hand to contain the fire.
"Over the last three years, the Cariboo Fire Centre has experienced dry conditions and an elevated fire hazard, and the restriction has been put into place to help prevent human-caused fires and protect public safety."
