Fall Fair still going strong

The organization behind the scenes may have changed, but the South Cariboo Fall Fair is still a community event for the community.

The Rotary Club of 100 Mile House recently voted to end its hosting of the fair, but Canlan Ice Sports has taken up the baton.

"This is an important community event," says Canlan general manager Josh Dickerson.

"We will be keeping it similar; why re-invent the wheel? But we will be adding some new elements to the fair."

Dickerson says he is proud of the events Canlan staff has organized and presented in the past, stressing the fair is not a Canlan event, but the process of putting on events is the same.

"We will be keeping the same dates for the fair, [the second weekend in September] and right now we are putting together a Fall Fair committee."

With fewer members than in the past, the Rotary Club doesn't have the capacity to devote the required amount of time for such a large event, Rotary president MJ Castonguay says, adding Rotary took over the Fall Fair more than 20 years ago.

"Rotary is pleased to share the past information with Canlan. We have all the binders and the contacts from recent fairs.

"The continuation of the fall fair is vitally important and I'm happy it will continue in such capable hands."
