The District of 100 Mile House held a regular council meeting on June 13. The following are several briefs on matters discussed before Mayor and council.
Tammy Boulanger takes
over as CAO
The District of 100 Mile House took its own advice and ‘shopped local’ for its new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
Director of Financial Administration, Tammy Boulanger was appointed to the office of CAO prior to the regular meeting of council.
Roy Scott, the current CAO, will be staying in a consulting position.
Sheena Elias, deputy director of corporate administration was appointed as the new director of financial administration.
“We are very fortunate here in our community to have such wonderful staff and be able to move them up the ranks and have them stay with us even longer,” said Mayor Maureen Pinkney.
The new offices come into effect on July 1.
Nordics Club update
Chris Keam, president of the 100 Mile Nordics addressed council as part of the District’s initiative to get to know the various volunteer and service groups in the area.
Keam read from the president’s report presented at the club’s recent AGM. He said it was a big year in part due to favourable weather and the new PistonBully trail groomer that was delivered in August.
Building on the momentum of the Teck Northern Cup #3 over the last two years the club plans on holding a two-day race next season, adding a 23-plus category.
The future of the club was discussed at a strategic planning meeting. While the lodge is not in immediate need there are renovations and repairs that need to be done to the building.
Keam said that while the volunteers the club currently has are great they always need more. They are also in need of staffing. It is tough finding the right people with the needed skill set.
The club has met with snowmobile and mountain bike clubs and they have the same problem. There is a need for more non-profit groups to come together under one umbrella and work together for grants. Keam mentioned the possibility of the District hiring a recreation coordinator for all.
Bulk water station to be moved
The bulk water station will be moving from its current location on Horse Lake Road to the 101 Mile site at the Exeter truck route and Highway 97 intersection. The water will come from the same source but the new location will help to improve flow, be more accessible and help to reduce congestion in the community services yard.
Most importantly it is hoped it will improve chlorine residuals in the water from the Exeter water tower. The water remains somewhat dormant currently due to low usage.
