The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) announced its final offer to Canada Post on May 30 and issued a 72-hour strike notice.
Postal workers will now be in a legal position to strike at 11:59 p.m. EDT on June 2 if there aren't any settlement results.
CUPW national president Denis Lemelin said the union is willing to bargain right up to the strike deadline for a contract based on its final offer.
A Canada Post release the same day states it's own final offer had proposed better pay and benefits for employees, and cites challenges from a decline in "letter mail" volume since 2006.
Federal pension and Old Age Security cheques would be delivered in the event of a strike, but all other mail and parcel delivery would cease.
