Following are the board highlights from last month's Cariboo Regional District (CRD) meeting:
Recruitment plans
Interior Health (IH) community administrator Allison Ruault made a presentation regarding a proposal to develop recruitment plans for physicians and health professional staff for Williams Lake and 100 Mile House.
Ruault noted both communities experience challenges recruiting new physicians and other health-care professionals to the area, as is the case with other similar-sized communities.
She described how many rural towns have found successful recruitment depends on strong community support and partnering with the local health authority.
The Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District (CCRHD) will provide $15,000 in support for the project, which CRD finance committee chair Art Dumaresq later explained will come from last year's funding allocation of $100,000 for health-care recruiting.
He added Thompson Rivers University students would prepare the plans for IH.
Capital projects
The board approved a request from IH for funding to replace the nurse call system at the 100 Mile District General Hospital and Mill Site Lodge/Fischer Place, with an amended level of contribution. Although IH had initially requested 100 per cent funding, the board followed its usual funding procedure of 40 per cent of capital costs, Dumaresq said, as the value of the help alert system was above and beyond what the board considers to be maintenance.
