With the Societies Act changing on Nov. 28, a workshop is scheduled for June 14 at Horton Ventures, at 808 Alpine Ave. in 100 Mile House from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
This event will provide information on the bylaw and policy changes necessary for organizations to effectively make the transition when the new act is proclaimed.
Facilitator Martha Rans is the legal director of Pacific Legal Education Outreach Society, which operates Artists’ Legal Outreach and Law for Nonprofits programs.
She has been practising law in British Columbia since 1997, and works extensively with arts organizations, non-profit societies and visual and multimedia digital artists.
There are numerous non-profit groups in 100 Mile House and area, including societies, organizations and associations that fulfill a broad range of functions – sports, health, education, communities and more.
The act governs how societies are created and run in British Columbia. The new act includes significant updates to allow for more flexibility in how societies operate, while still protecting the public interest.
The new Societies Act will have a two-year transition period by which time all societies in B.C. will have to make the switch to the new act.
The fifth Non Profit Board Development Skills Workshop will have a fee of $20 to help cover the cost of workshop materials and snack is payable by cash or cheque on the day of the event.
